No, YOU Buy ME A Fucking Drink Apathy Jack's article, "I'm A Fucking Genius, Buy Me A Drink," kinda hit home for me. I can't help thinking that I'm one of those people he was talking about. After all, while I'm not particularly fond of coffee, I've consumed more beer than I care to think about over the last few years, and watched more than my fair share of American SitComs. Then I thought about it. Acually it turns out that the answer to the question what the fuck have you done is a lot. Just counting the stuff that's actually seen the light of day, and not just some dusty pile in my bedroom makes a fairly impressive list. Let's see, I wrote two plays, and acted in one of them. I managed to produce nine issues of Strange Aeons, a magazine of short fiction. And most people seemed to quite like it. In fact, if people would actually give me stuff to put in it, I might even produce issue ten. I also wrote a few short stories and a comic strip for TSV, and god only knows how much stuff I did for Craccum. Yeah, okay, none of it exactly changed the world, but what do you fucking want from me? Blood? I'm doing my best here. Oh yeah, I also made this web site. And I wrote a novel. I was about 21, and I spent most of a summer writing. Among other things that emerged from that summer of inexplicable enthusiasm was a short novel. More of a novella. Still, 40,000 words is better than most people manage. Just to prove it, I sat down and typeset the damn thing. You can get it as a bunch of PDFs at the bottom of this page(I recommend you right-click that link and choose save as. The browser plug-in version of acrobat sucks for big documents). If you don't have Acrobat Reader, then you can find it at the Adobe website. And since I really like it, you can find the full colour verision of the cover by clicking this: So come on, think about it. What have you done? It's easy to get all morose and think you've done nothing, but most of us have done some stuff. So what is it? --Hewligan
