TANSTAAFL

So, all those companies that decided that the New Zealand dollar was too high, and that they had to move their manufacturing to Asia - what with how in the same week the New Zealand dollar drops and news breaks worldwide that Chinese goods are poisoning children - how smart are they feeling?
And while we're at it - the New Zealand dollar is really high, and it's a disaster that's going to plunge us all into ruinous poverty, right? Then, the New Zealand dollar drops, and it's... a disaster that's going to plunge us all into ruinous poverty?
Once again, is this thing on?

So many problems with Fusion News - the software that runs mutopia. I will be replacing it soon.

New National: Same Old Policy

Oh lookee, Work for the Dole has a new name.
Now, I've said before that I actually quite like John Key and Bill English - which is true. Unfortunately, I just don't like the party they're in, and this is really an example of why.
Not quick enough

So, I was going to write something about how I can only assume that David Benson-Pope must have some really incriminating pictures of Helen Clark, but it turns out Span already made my point for me. My version would have been funnier, though.
Instead, however, I give you more art. You lucky, lucky bastards.
This is more Illustrator work. Normally when I work in Illustrator, I start with a photograph or a pencil sketch, but this time I tried drawing straight into Illustrator. Worked out better than I expected, actually.

Comics Pro Using Illustrator

There's an old joke about Mac owners: What's a Mac owner's favourite computer game?
Photoshop.
I'm here to tell you that isn't true. Photoshop is my second favourite game. My favourite is Adobe Illustrator. Which is why I got so excited by this blog by an honest-to-god professional comics artist, working for mainstream comics companys and using Illustrator to produce his art. Sadly, probably none of the rest of you are nearly as interested in that as I am.
So instead, I offer you this picture of a friend I drew in Illustrator:

No, Seriously

Okay, where the hell did this whole "you can't prove a negative" meme come from?
Here's a negative statement: "My carpet is not green."
I look at the carpet beneath my feet, and it is in fact more a sort of beige colour. Definitely not green.
So can we stop saying that now?

On a related note...

Given the weather, I haven't felt much inclined to go out and find stuff to point my camera at. Still, given it's my current obsession, that just means that I have been photographing anything and everything around my flat.
During this process, I discovered that setting the wrong white balance really does give a far more accurate representation of how I'm feeling about now.

C-c-c-c-c-c-c-Freezing!
by Hewligan on 19-06-2007 08:59
I have a heater with a timer on it, and I set it to start up half an hour before my alarm clock was due to go off this morning. When I got up I thought: "Shit, I must've set it wrong, it didn't start up."
Then I walked into the bathroom, and realised the horrible truth: The heater had warmed up my bedroom.
